Project Details

In 2019, Millstone Weber (MW) was awarded a project with BNSF Railway (BNSF) to replace existing Span 32 of Bridge 390.2 over the Black River in Black Rock, Arkansas with a new pier foundation and two new structural steel sans. MW began work on the project in September 2019, installing the new pier foundation consisting of a single row of four (4) drilled and socketed HP 14X89 h-piles. Shafts were drilled and cased with 30" diameter permanent steel casing before setting and encasing the h-pile in concrete. The new precast concrete pier cap was hoisted and rolled into place atop the h-pile substructure during a dedicated track window. During the scheduled twelve (12) hour track curfew, MW successfully completed the removal of Span 32, modifications to the existing abutment and new Pier 32, installation of precast concrete riser blocks, and installation of new structural steel Span 32 and Span 33. All work ahead of and during the curfew window was closely coordinated with BNSF and resulted in the successful changeout of Span 32 within the 12-hour curfew window.
