Project Overview

In February 2017, the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) awarded a $7.8 million contract to Millstone Weber (MW) to rebuild two lanes in both the northbound and southbound directions of Rte. 65 through Springfield, Missouri. The project consisted of the removal and replacement of approximately seven miles of roadway along a stretch of Rte. 65 in Springfield, MO which averages nearly 70,000 cars per day. To limit the impact on the traveling public and increase work zone safety, MoDOT selected to complete the project in six stages, completely closing Rte. 65 between different sets of on and of ramps during each stage. Work was completed in three stages on both the southbound and northbound directions of Rte. 65, with an average length of just over one mile per stage. In following a systematic approach to the work, and emphasizing coordination and communication with all project stakeholders, MW was able to complete all six stages in forty-two days. MW worked with MoDOT to communicate the ever-changing traffic patterns to the public through various means, including traditional methods such as message boards and detour signage, but also through use of social media, a standalone website, and local news coverage. The Rte. 65 Rebuild Project was awarded Project of the Year in the Transportation and Infrastructure under $10 Million Category by the Associated General Contractors of Missouri Chapter in 2018.
