Project Overview

Millstone Weber (MW) was awarded the DeSoto Site Development and Flood Control Project in Spring 2016. This project improved vehicle accessibility and movement, fortified flood protection capability, and improved stormwater conveyance efficiency and treatment throughout Union Pacific Railroad’s (UPRR) DeSoto Yard. The intent of this project was to separate and treat stormwater runoff from UPRR’s property before it entered the City of DeSoto’s storm drainage system. This was accomplished by rehabilitating existing drainage structures and constructing new structures to capture and convey stormwater to an on-site treatment pond before it leaves the site. One of the largest challenges associated with this project was its’ proximity to live railroad tracks and track crossings. The facility remained active during construction. Daily coordination between MW, subcontractors, and UPRR Yard Staff was critical to limiting impact to UPRR operations. MW crews worked diligently through the winter months to complete this project in less than one calendar year and meet the strict deadline for operability of the new stormwater treatment system of June 1, 2017.
