SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3/KSPR) – The new southbound Route 65 bridge over Interstate 44 opened back up for drivers Saturday, August 25. In addition to the bridges completion, ramps for westbound I-44 to southbound Route 65 and southbound Route 65 to eastbound I-44 also reopened.
A news release from the Missouri Department of Transportation stated there will still be some overnight lane closings possible for final maintenance stages and cleanup work. The work listed included grading along shoulders in various locations and applying grass seed and mulch.
Resident Engineer, Brad Gripka, said wet weather delayed some of the work, but they are appreciative of drivers patience over the past month and a half.
The goal of the project was to replace the 50-year old, deteriorating southbound Route 65 bridge over I-44 and make other updates along ramps and shoulders. The prime contractor was Millstone Weber, Inc. of St. Charles, Missouri. The total cost of the project is about $4.3 million.
Phase three of the Route 65 Rebuild will not start until the Spring of 2019.
